Poland and Ukraine - EU's energy bridge

President of NAEC "Energoatom" Yuri Nedashkovsky and vice president of the Polish company Polenergia International S.a r.l Grzegorz Stanislavsky signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the project "energy bridge Ukraine - European Union" on March 17 in Kiev office NAEC "Energoatom".

Signing of the Memorandum was the result of the semi-annual preparatory work of experts and Enerhoatom Polenergia. "This project we consider as one of the financial instruments the completion of the third and fourth units of Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant. Now we are preparing a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers to develop a feasibility study for the project, "- said the head of Energoatom Yuri Nedashkovsky.

In turn, Mr. Stanislavsky expressed satisfaction with the intensification of working contacts between Energoatom and Polenergia and fast approaching the practical implementation of the ambitious project. "We are really proud of the opportunity to work with such a powerful company like Energoatom. I think our project great prospects. But it is not only the economic component, which will certainly be beneficial to all parties, for me personally it is very important to be able to assist Ukraine in these difficult times, which is going through your country.

Cooperation in the energy sector will be further proof of validity of friendly relations between Ukraine and Poland "- said vice-president of the Polish company.

The main purpose of the tripartite Memorandum, which is also signed "Ukrenergo" is the assessment of the feasibility and implementation of the project "Energy Bridge Ukraine - European Union", which began as part of a trans-European energy networks (TEN-E). The project is also part of the plan to create a single Baltic energy market (BEMIP), which was launched at the initiative of the European Council in 2008.

Among the challenges faced by the participants of the project "energy bridge Ukraine - European Union" is the commissioning of 750 kV overhead line Khmelnitsky NPP - Rzeszow (Poland), which allow the use of existing nuclear capacity without restriction, provided the surplus electricity to ensure its exports EU and invest in the completion of units №3 and №4 KNPP. And also conduct training of nuclear facilities to full union with the European Ukrainian energy.


Today at the Ukrainian NPPs plan and perform upgrades, after which they will comply with all technical requirements to connect to the network ENTSO-E.
