NSDC considers state defense order for 2017

The National Security and Defense Council headed by the President is considering a state defense order for 2017. At the beginning of the session, the Head of State emphasized that all flaws of 2016 must be taken into account during the formation of this year’s order.

“We must form the state defense order for 2017 taking into account all flaws of 2016. First of all, I would like to emphasize that 81% of the state defense order is the general fund of the state budget. And we are firmly convinced that the funding of these 81% will be guaranteed,” Petro Poroshenko said.
“In financial equivalent – approximately 9 billion hryvnias – these are the funds of the general state budget in 2017. And the funding must begin immediately,” the Head of State added.
The President informed the state defense order would be formed for three years minimum pursuant to his instruction. “So that we can implement the most advanced products of the Ukrainian MIC and Ukrainian constructors with a good reputation in the army and in the international market,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.
The Head of State considers it expedient to purchase samples of weaponry and military equipment in the amount that ensures the so-called “wholesale rearmament” of certain military units.
According to the President, a big discussion in the formation of the state defense order has been caused by the choice of items to be purchased. “We have a choice: either one “Oplot” or ten modernized and fully repaired T-64 or T-80. Moreover, construction of “Oplot” lasts at least 18 months, while modernization of T-80 lasts 2.5 months. Thus, we either have a tank squadron or a single tank,” the President said.
